What is a CAO?
A Child Arrangements Order (CAO) regulates with whom a child is to live, spend time, or otherwise have contact. Replacing the older terms of 'custody' and 'access,' a CAO focuses on the child's right to maintain a relationship with both parents.
When applying for a CAO, you must usually attempt mediation first through a MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting). Understanding the steps involved, from the initial directions hearing (FHDRA) to the final hearing, is crucial for setting realistic expectations.
